Catching Up.....

Well it's been a while since we updated this thing. We've been up to quite a bit since Brody arrived.

Brandon played soccer of the summer and Rodney's folks came out and visited for a month. We did a couple of trips to the coast while they were here and had a very nice visit. It was so nice to have the help as we all adjusted to me going back to work.

Brandon's recently started gymnastics and seems to really like it. Brody is up to about 14 lbs and smiling, laughing and watching brother. Won't be long until he's rolling over!

I just had my gall bladder removed and with the viruses coming home from play school we've been to the doctor a lot! Looking forward to halloween this weekend. Brandon will be a fire cheif and Brody will be a bumble be. It'll be fun to go trick or treating since this is the first time we're really going.

Sleep has been winning out over updating the blog - but I'm hoping to get back in the habit as Brody gets better at sleeping over night.

Finally both boys are down for a nap! Here are the pictures we've been promising.

Brody arrived 7/10/10, weighed 8 pounds and 20 inches in length.

So far we're adjusting well. Mom and Dad were in a lot last week to help out with meals and cleaning which was so nice. So far little man's a pretty good sleeper so we're not too wacky from lack of sleep. Brandon's been a great little helper and is really good around little brother.

I'm sure we'll see some acting out in the near future but there's been so many people over to see him that he's been pretty good so far. He misses daddy tons since he went back to work yesterday. He actually asked for my phone so he could call him yesterday.

Brody seems to be a pretty mello baby so far. Although now that I've said that he'll switch it up on me!

Baby shower weekend

The family all came over for a baby shower this last weekend. And I'm counting it as our only big family campout of the summer - since technically everyone was here for campfire and smores and several people slept in tents!

It was so great to get everyone together in one place. (Amazing how hard that is now that we've all got kids etc !)

Even more amazing was having all 9 cousins in one place and no major fights!

Most everybody showed up on Friday and set up camp in the yard and house. We enjoyed the nice weather and had dinner outside.

Saturday the guys (and brooklyn) went to Fred Meyers to see the rescue helicopter land and see the law enforcement/rescue fair. Which gave the rest of us a chance to prep for the party.

I think the kids enjoyed the swing most of all. Lots of underdogs were requested and granted! Those toddler swings sure can take a lot of abuse!

Unfortunately everyone had to head home on Sunday and get back to our real worlds. Hopefully we'll see everyone again next week for Brody's arrival! (I hope it's not the week after - so ready to have him here!)

I do hope to remember to update more often so everyone can see how Brandon is growing and how life will adjust to adding baby brother Brody.

What have we been up to since Christmas....well we found out we're expecting, Brandon's been up to all sorts of learning, Rodney finished his SAR (search and rescue) training and we've been making room for baby.

Brandon can count to 12 pretty regularly - sometime 16 but that's hit or miss. He's getting really good with his letters and loves reading anything so he can show off for us. Potty training officially started a couple of weeks ago, but he's not quite ready yet. So we're taking it slow. Brandon will start preschool in September and I can't wait to get all the new things to hang on the fridge!

Rodney was able to start and finish his SAR training this year and should be joining a rescue group soon. I'm so proud of him for pursuing this and am looking forward to the rewards and challenges it will bring!

Brody's set to arrive in July - hopefully no later than his due date. I'm so ready to be comfortable again!

I've been doing a lot of reading and concentrating on spiritual and personal growth this year. Working full time from home can get a little lonely - so once Brody's here I'll be able to find an activity or something that will get me out of the house once in a while!

We did better taking pictures in December. Overall it was a busy month - we had a lot of doctor visits for Rodney and lots of other things getting ready for the holidays. Brandon helped pick the tree this year and helped us decorate it. He even got to pick out his own Ornament - Little Einsteins Rocket of course! We did Christmas Day at home this year and it was a big one since Brandon got his own bed! He woke up at 5:30 and we opened presents slowly so he could play with each as he unwrapped it. All of us took a nap in the afternoon.

We had a really nice Thanksgiving at home. Ironically our good eater decided he wouldn't eat any food we made so he had Mac and Cheese. It was nice to have a quiet day at home.

Earlier in the month Rodney had a business trip to Tennessee which allowed him a visit with his folks and a chance to explore eastern TN. It's a really beautiful area!

Brandon's discovered that he can wear our shoes - mostly he wears mine since I leave them out where he can find them ;-)

We haven't stopped blogging I promise!!!!

I know it's been a while (too long!) but I promise we haven't stopped posting!

Let's see since our last post we had a very busy summer and early fall. We got the new fence up, Rodney's folks came out for a visit, went to the airshow in Hillsboro, we took a family trip to Maryland (although I had to work), we've been all over Oregon and camped quite a bit. Even managed to find a church we like and have started attending on the weekends we are home.

Brandon finally has his new glasses and they look so good!

We went camping with Leslie and her family over in Newport and Brandon got his first tast of bare feet in the sand! He had such a good time! It was also his first weekend with his new glasses and he did very well!

Over Memorial Day weekend the family converged on Brownsville to get in a good visit. His first trip to the Fire Trucks was a little overwhelming but he started to warm up right before we left. It was a ton of fun to get the whole family together and have a nice visit!

His lazy eye has really improved (at least when the glasses are on) since he started wearing the glasses. I think he likes being able to see because we haven't had to fight too much to keep them on!

Well we've been pretty busy since our last update. Rodney and I went up to Seattle to visit with Jared and meet his girlfriend. It was an awesome trip and it looks like Jared and Simone will be getting married next year. Whenever possible we'll take the train places because it's such a relaxing trip!

After that I had a business trip to Maryland that ended early because Rodney had medical issues come up that required serious testing. So far so good though - looking like it's just gall stones! Pretty big weight off our minds and I appreciate everyone's prayer and well wishes. His procedure and surgery will happen in about three weeks so after that we'll all be breathing a bit easier.

Grandma celebrated her 99th birthday. I can't even imagine all that she's witnessed in her lifetime. She seems to be settling in well at the Mennonite Home and has even put on a little weight. We get to see her Sunday for chapel. I'm pretty sure she has no idea who we are but lights up when Brandon smiles at her and gives kisses so it's all worth it.

I had a really great time a couple of weekends ago when I went with Leslie and her mom to see "Wicked". It's been so long since I've been to a musical - and it was incredible. Always good to have an excuse to get dressed up.

Eric bought a new toy and brought it up to the Richards' last weekend to show it off. (We also got to meet his new lady friend Sandy - she seems pretty cool.) The kids had a great time checking out the quad - all except Brooklyn - she was not a fan! It was so nice to get caught up with everyone. I don't think we'd seen the Richard's in like four months!

All in all it's been pretty hectic around here (as it is with everyone I suppose)
;-) Brandon shows us something new every day and he's so funny. Now I know why parents assign so many chores to their kids - they have to catch up from what piled up while they were playing with them!

I'm looking forward to our girls weekend soon so Olin and Brandon can catch up and teach eachother new stuff. Here are some pictures:

Valentines Day

Well for Valentines this year Rodney and I decided to trade the Subaru in for an SUV - we are now the owners of 2008 Nissan Armada. I've pretty much gotten used to driving it - but still a little nervous parking. Shouldn't take long though.

We're both getting over a monster of a cold. On day 8 of our phlegmy adventure! Woo Hoo - but we're both on the up swing - I think..... Rodney's been dealing with some additional stuff - it looks like gall bladder but we'll know for sure next week.

Since Jen and I were both off on Monday we took the kids to the zoo. They were very good and had a lot of fun! It was great to get the kids together and spend the day out.

Other than that it's been pretty quiet around here!

Sorry it's taken so long to get these up - it's been busy around here!

Rodney and I spent new years with Leslie and Aaron in Hood River. It was so nice to have some grown up time! Brandon stayed at Mom and Dad's along with his aunts, uncles and cousins. And of course he slept through the night! For grandma and grandpa he'll sleep - mama and daddy are another story;-)

Since then I've started my new job - which is going well. I had my first week long trip away from the boys and it was tough on me. Brandon and Rodney did just fine on their own. Brandon's learned to talk on the phone. Which really means holding it up to his ear - saying mama and then running away so daddy can't get the phone back.

Brandon's adjusting very well to daycare. In fact I think he comes home with something new from there every day. For example - he no longer calls me daddy! He's learning to put his toys away and how to navigate stairs. It only took a couple of weeks and he now loves it there!

Other than that we're adjusting to life with both of us working full time. Here are some pictures from later in the month. Brandon got such a kick out of throwing the ball for Tasha. In fact he spent a lot of the time running after her too!

Christmas 2008

We had a very nice - quiet Christmas at home this year. I got up about 6:30 to enjoy a cup of coffee and some time watching 'A Christmas Story' before the boys got up. Then we headed off to breakfast with Mom, Dad and Eric. Elmer's was PACKED - but Brandon did very well and we all ate too much! Eric joined us at the house for a little while. I think Brandon misses having him around - he was so excited to see him.

We opened presents and Brandon couldn't figure out which ones to play with first! The rest of the day was spent relaxing a bit before enjoying a nice ham dinner.

Other than that we've started getting little man ready to start day care. He's spent a few hours at Terri's house without mama and he's doing okay. Today was the first time he stayed through naptime and it went better than expected. Next week starts the real deal - wish us luck!

We went up to Jen and Brads last weekend and enjoyed a visit with the cousins and Brandon's first snow! Unfortunately the bad weather kept us from attending my friend Celeste's wedding - but knowing Celeste it was a great day no matter what the weather did!

Brandon doesn't quite have the hang of walking in his mud boots so he stood a lot - and sat down when he tried walking. He followed Jason around everywhere. I think he likes his cousin! Brandon also liked hanging out on Brooklyn's bed. He kept taking books in there to read.

On Monday we made a break for home around lunch time - and decided to stop in Salem because I-5 was backed up for a few hours. Ironically - after getting settled at the hotel - we were rear-ended in the Fred Meyer parking lot! No damage - but it's a little funny to avoid I-5 for traffic and get nicked in the parking lot.

We made it home on Tuesday and enjoyed an unexpected day without work. We don't have much planned between now and Christmas which is very nice.

Brandon's learned a few letters and is getting new words by the day. He's quite the helper when it's time to do laundry! We need to get a movie of it soon so I can prove at some point in the future he knew how to do laundry ;-) His latest thing is the 'River Dance'. Not sure where he got it, but he puts his arms up and moves his little feet soooooo fast. It's hilarious!

Visiting Santa

Sharon and I took Brandon to see Santa for the first time yesterday! Rodney and I decided it would be easier on kiddo if we did it at a slow time of day so we wouldn't have to wait in line. I was sorry Daddy couldn't be there but it was a fun trip to the mall (which are so rare this time of year ;-)

Brandon really like the big deer in the display and couldn't quite figure out Santa's beard. Most of all he liked the fan that kept Santa from overheating. Gotta love kids!

Thanksgiving

Well we didn't do a very good job of getting pictures at Thanksgiving - maybe we'll do better at Christmas!

Let's see - since my last posting - Dad retired!! Kindof - he'll still be working here and there but for the most part he gets to putter around the house. Not really - he's got a list of stuff he wants to finish around the house so I don't think he'll get bored any time soon!

Thanksgiving started off with Tami too sick to come down and Mom in the Emergency Room the night before. Everything turned out well, but it made a late night for all. On Thanksgiving we all went over to the fellowship hall at the Catholic Church in Brownsville - the family is big enough that we can't all fit in a house! What a meal! Brandon ate more than he ate all week!

Rodney and I both had to work on Friday - but wrapped up early. On Saturday everyone came over to celebrate Brooklyn's birthday (a little early) and watch the ever so sad Civil War game.

Last weekend we went to the tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree. Brandon had a lot of fun collecting sticks while we picked out a tree. He really liked the ride out to the tree lot - in a trailer behind a tractor. We got to see a lot of cows on the way out!

He's really into the moon right now and we were able to see it while we loaded the tree on top of the car - which kept him from getting too fussy. (Notice how I say we when it was Rodney doing the big labor?)

After we picked out the tree we went into Brownsville to visit with mom and dad - and to celebrate my new job! I flew to Maryland last week and after the first of the year I will be employed by a Credit Union in Laurel Maryland. I'll still be able to work for my current boss which is a huge blessing!

Halloween

Halloween went great! After his nap on Friday we drove into Corvallis to go trick or treating at Rodney's office. (still feels weird not to say 'our' office) He was very cute in his monkey costume and had a lot of fun digging in the buckets of candy. Usually putting a piece from his bucket in before taking a piece out.

When we got home we dressed him up again and he walked over to our neighbor's for one more trick or treat. Then we spent a quiet evening at home.

Saturday we woke up - had breakfast and started on our way to Tami and Evans for Olin's dedication. However - the flu struck me before we got to Portland so we decided to head home. I'll spare you the details but it was not a fun weekend for me! Sorry to miss such a good visit with everyone - but we'll make up for it at Thanksgiving!

Last night we watched the election - I'm so grateful to have witnessed something this historic in my lifetime. The magnitude didn't quite hit home until I thought about Grandma and how far this country has come in her lifetime.

And because I can't resist - Eric, Evan, Aaron, Brady and Bill - for at least one day you were a 'monkey's uncle' - hardee har harr...;-)

First Trip to Pumpkin Patch

Okay so I'll point out the irony that didn't actually make it home with a pumpkin - but other than that Saturday was a blast! Brandon got to see most of the farm animals he sees in his books and was able to walk trough his first mini-maze. And let's not forget the apple cider donuts....yummmmm. Thank you Leslie and Aaron for inviting us! I think we'll be heading back so we can go on the hayride and see about a pony ride for little man.

It was such a nice fall day that Brandon and I decided to take a walk while we waited for the car to get it's oil changed. He couldn't quite figure out the fountain downtown, but had a blast discovering leaves and grass. Pretty much he just walked in circles checking everything out.

I can't get over what a big boy he's becoming. He's learning how to put his clothes in the hamper and loves helping us get them into the washer. He also 'helps' us shut the refridgerator and cupboard doors alot. (mostly it's a way to get him out of there without a meltdown.)

This week (knock on wood I don't jinx it) he's been sleeping through the night and has completely stopped nursing. He's down to one nap a day - lasting 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I never thought he'd get over the power nap - but I'm so thankful he's getting the hang of everything.

Quiet times at home

It's been nice to have a quiet October at home. Brandon's started swim class and making progress every week. He's really getting into reading and learning how to make everyone laugh. Enjoy the pictures and videos.

After the birthday party at the campground we couldn't resist having another party at home for a few other people. He had a lot of fun with all his friends. It was cool because he knew everyone and had fun playing with them all. All of his friends got to meet eachother and they got along very well.

He was so tired by the end of the day he fell asleep in his high chair!

Since then he's started walking and loves carrying stuff around in his mouth while he wanders around the house. He got to watch his first Beavers game with Daddy. And what a first game! (okay it's not his first game but it is the first one he actually watched ;-)

We're in the process of weening him and making good progress. Also - getting nap issues under control - again..... But he's getting the hang of putting himself to sleep and only gets to nurse in the middle of the night. Should be finished weening near the end of October - probably closer to the middle. Hopefully he'll be sleeping most of the way through the night by the end of the year.

1st DMB concert and Camping Birthday!

Well - as always it's been a little while since I updated. Since our trip to TN we took little man to his first Dave Matthews Band Concert - he did really well! Our 'weekend' began on Thursday night when we dropped Tasha off at Jen's and drove to Stevenson for the night. I got a pretty bad head cold and Rodney was a true gentleman and let me sleep in in Friday.

We got to Tam and Ev's about 3:00 on Friday - the boys got to play and Rodney and I got a date! We went to the concert and didn't get home til about midnight. Tami said Brandon did really well and only melted down at bedtime. He and Olin play really well together.

Saturday we went to swim class with Olin and Brandon got his first taste of the big pool. All things considered he did well. We also met our friends Huey and Scio for lunch. Their little girl (Jade) is only a few months older than Brandon and he's already outgrown her. It was nice to catch up with them.

Rodney, Brandon and I went to the DMB concert that night - and the little guy picked up his first chick! They're eyes locked across the blankets and it was all over (until they fell asleep about 8:30) It was really cold that night so we didn't stay long.

We drove back to Stevenson on Sunday and decided to stay the night since Rodney had Monday off. It was nice to relax a bit before getting back to the grind. Monday we picked up Tasha and made it home. I worked for a little while but really spent most of the time taking it easy so I could finish getting over the cold.

The next weekend we were off to the coast for the annual camping trip. We got there Friday night just in time for some campfire and bedtime. Saturday Brandon and Olin were both up early - but they love being outside! And playing in the tent. After breakfast they played and we got ready for their 'party'. Once they both got up from naps we had cupcakes and opened presents.

Olin's not so sure about cupcakes - but Brandon likes his sugar! All the kids enjoyed playing with the toys. Then a group of people went crabbing and we went to the Hatfield Science Center. That night we had a really good dinner of Crab in corn chowder. I think that's going to stay on the menu from here on out!

Sunday morning Brandon got his first haircut. We were too excited to remember to get pictures of the process so you'll have to jump over to the Richards' blog. Other than that Sunday was pretty mellow - most of us packed up by noon. A bunch of us went to the Rogue Brewery for lunch. We were exhausted by the time we got home - although the little guys likes camping - he does not dig the air mattress. So we didn't sleep well in the tent.

Tennessee Trip and beyond

The trip out to see Rodney's family was great! We arrived on Friday (late) and stopped at Waffle House as soon as we left the airport. Thank you John and Kayla! Then we headed out to the Thomas cabin and visited. I think we all rolled into bed about 1 am. Fortunately we didn't have to drive on Saturday so we all took it easy. Brandon got to meet Wolf. He thought 'Ta' (at the time his word for dog) was pretty cool.

Sunday morning we all woke up around 7:00 (except for Rodney who we let sleep in) and left for Gatlinburg around 9:00. All in all a very smooth drive - which got us into Gatlinburg about 7 pm. Rodney's sister rented a very cool cabin on the outskirts of Gatlinburg. There were 12 of us all together. It was nice to have such a relaxing place (with a phenominal view) to relax after we'd been out.

Monday we slept in and then spent the day in Gatlinburg shopping. We ate at a restaurant that had the best catfish I've ever tasted. Brandon loved the white beans, hush puppies and mashed potatoes. He especially liked the guy walking around playing guitar. He clapped and clapped for him.

After that the days kind of blur together. I know we went to Dollywood - which has a ton of stuff for kids of any age. Although it was very hot and humid we all survived and had a pretty good time. Rodney and I discovered a Cuban restaurant in Gatlinburg and had lunch there one day. We went to the aquarium of the smokies which was pretty cool. They have a tunnel through the shark tank but Brandon liked the school of fish the best.

We also went to "Dixie Stampede" - which is kind of like the knight of the round table dinner - but with rodeo type stuff instead. Brandon absolutley loved the show (even though he fell asleep half way through). Before dinner there was a blue grass band that was awesome! Our nephew Justin got his picture take with the guy who played stand up base. They were very nice. The group also got to go horseback riding. Although a few of us ladies stayed beind with the little ones. They got to see a few animals in the petting zoo though.

It took him most of the week to warm up to everyone - but by Friday he was happy to play with everybody. Especially Haley (hope I spelled it right). She's about Brooklyns age and he had a blast following her around.

Friday we got up wayyyyyyyy early and drove back to Nashville so we could catch our flight home. Fortunately we were able to give him a lot of time to crawl and things so he did really well. We stayed with Jen and Brad on Friday night and finally got home on Saturday.

The weekend after we got home we went to my high school reunion dinner and picnic. It was cool to see how much people looked the same as we did in high school. I guess that means we're aging well ;-) Silly me forgot to take any pictures - sorry!

Other than that we've been getting caught up around the house and trying to get ready for our trip to the DMB (Dave Mathews Band) concert. Then it's on to Brandon and Olin's first birthdays! Can you believe it!!!!!!

Early June - really there wasn't much going on - but I got some cute pictures of him hanging out at my boss's house. Brandon and I spent a night up at Jen and Brad's because it had been too long since we saw them. I got to tag along to swim class - although that didn't last long because it was too stinkin' hot in there! It was really great to catch up with Jen and the kids. (And thank you jen for loaning us the stand up toy - he loves that thing!)

In the middle of the month he went on his first camping trip and had a blast. Turns out he likes the pac'n'play as long as we're not trying to put him to sleep in it. He had fun watching the dogs and swapping stories with Granmpala. Eric figured out he can scare the be-jesus out of Ruger in his Gilly (spelling?) suit. Aside from Tasha and Shelby getting into it a bit it was a really easy trip. Not sure when his next one will be - I hope soon!

We went back up to stay with Jen and Brad so we could go to Aiden's Birthday party and Jason could see his OMSI friend. Unfortunately we were ding dongs and didn't any pictures of the actual party - but we had a blast in the pool and crawling around the house. Leslie gave Jen and Jason Aiden's old bike since he got a new one - it looked so cute next to Rodney's on the car.

Then came the 4th of July. Tami and Evan came down with Olin - which was awesome! The boys are finally old enough to play together - or in this case fight over toys.....He slept right through the fireworks but had a blast chasing the older kids around. We went to see Leslie and Aaron weekend before last. The guys went riding and the rest of us got to hang out and get caught up.

Then last week There was a girls afternoon (after a small mishap with my missing brain!). Leslie, Trish and I got to catch up and go watch a movie.

Rodney and Brandon got some much needed boys time on Monday while I caught up on work. Nanny Sharon broke her elbow so we've been hanging out at the house a lot more than usual. Anna's been kind enough to switch her evenigns for afternoons so it's been going better than we thought. Hopefully we'll have good news from the Doctor tomorrow and we can go hang out with Sharon and the girls.

We're making headway on the whole nap thing (after switch to and from the cry it out method). After about a week we're down from 2 hours of crying to 10 minutes or less. And we've started switching to bottles. He's got 6 teeth now and without too much detial.....it's time to start with bottles. Right now we're just doing 1 bottle a day. Next week we'll add a second and hopefully by the end of June we'll be switched completely.

Alaska Trip

Phew - it's tough to get caught up after a little over a week away. Our trip to Alaska was awesome! It was great to see everyone and get caught up. The ship was kind enough to open a play room where we could take the kids - which was great since they're both crawling now!

Brandon's sporting 6 teeth all together now and pulling himself up. (In the crib mostly which is making naptime a real battle of wills. Any advice to preserve my sanity? He only wants to sleep if he's next to me....which is my own fault because we did that for the cruise so the crying wouldn't bug the neighbors.....)

He's getting used to his schedule again and naps are really our only big battle....well that and him sleeping alone. Are you getting the pattern here?;-)

Rodney's been a real saint this week with bedtime since I'm usually frazzled by then.

It seems like Brandon's doing something new every day now! Today he was instigating a game of 'peek' with the nanny (Sharon). It was so cute!

I'm just about off to bed - catch up with you all later! (oh and our camera ran out of juice the second day of the cruise so we're missing a few days of pics - but thanks to some very nice people in Skagway we were all set for the last few days of the trip!)

Here comes the sun!

Finally - the sun has shown itself!!!! Friday Mom, Dad, Jen, Brooklyn, Jason and Eric all hung out at the house. It was so much fun - although I didn't get as much work done as I should have - totally worth it though.

Jason helped Eric put laundry away by trying on his pants. Too funny! The kids got to play on the swingset and the dogs all got to play outside.

This weekend Rodney and I ran errands - and tested out matching faux-hawks on daddy and son. Pretty cute if I do say so myself. We got a swing for Brandon because the kid loves being outside. You should have seen him giggling while Jason and Brooklyn were swinging.

Other than that not much else going on except day to day stuff. The ground should be dry enough soon to play outside during the week. I'm so grateful for wireless internet so he can play and I can work a bit. I should be getting a blackberry like device soon so I don't have to haul the laptop around when I want to work a bit.

Sorry it's taken so long to update the blog - things have been hectic! A couple of weekends ago Brandon and I spent Saturday night at Jen and Brads so that Rodney could rest. We've been recycling the cold that's been going around for a couple of months now. It was nice to play with the kids and get some time away from the house. It's too bad our zoo plans didn't work out but mother nature already had her plans.

Last weekend we met our friends Leslie and Aaron (and their son Aiden) at OMSI. On our way up we picked up Jason since he and Aiden are close in age. They had a blast. The boys got to tour the submarine (minus Brandon cuz he's too little). It gave Leslie and I a chance to catch up while feeding Brandon. It was such a beautiful day! When we got back to Jen and Brad's we put Brandon on a blanket and watched the kids play. Jen brought out some popsicles and it really felt like summer. (Brandon likes popsicles ;-) so does Tasha)

This weekend we ran around trying to get a little more prepared for the cruise. Our friends Jeannie and Shane stayed over on Friday night before they went into Blodgett to take pictures at the 'Mud Slinger'. (An annual mountain bike race - aptly named since it's usually pretty mucky)

We also discovered that the Gerber baby food we've been using is packaged in plastic that new studies show we're not supposed to use so we got to restock the pantry. How frustrating! (At least you guys didn't have to listen to me gripe about it all day Saturday - Rodney showed extremem patience because I hated to waste the stuff we had in the cupboard.) Today Rodney was kind enough to take Brandon and run errands so I could catch up on some sleep. The little guy picked up a cold and hasn't been sleeping so well - but knock on wood no ear infection so far.

It's hard to beleive it felt like summer last weekend and it snowed this weekend. The cruise is coming up fast. It will be such a fun new experience for us as a family. We're starting to realize vacations will be a bit more work than they used to be - but the memories will be totally worth it.

It's been a bit of a whirlwind since we got back from Easter. Tasha discovered the compost pile in Tami and Evans back yard the day before easter and had a face like a prize fighter. She looked a bit better on Easter, but by Monday morning she was just a mopey mess. So she got to spend the night at the vet and was feeling much better on Tuesday. Needless to say a few hundred dollars later that was the most expensive snack ever!!!!!

Other than the spendy snack we had a really nice visit with Tami and Evan. Brandon and Olin are finally old enough they can 'play' with eachother. Which really means reaching for the face and attempting to touch the other one's eyes. It's neat to see how differently they're developing. Opposite in a lot of ways. Rodney says if you lay them next to eachother you get the number 10. Olin's got 4 or 5 pounds on our boy! They're both getting so close to crawling!

On the way home we stopped at LePage Park to feed Brandon. The park is still closed so there wasn't much else to do - but we had our first picnic!

I came home with quite a head cold - which I gave to Brandon and he has now had his first ear infection. He's feeling a lot better now and the sniffles are almost gone for all of us.

Last weekend we went to dinner with Eric, Jen, Brad, Jason and Brooklyn. I think that's the first time the triplets have been out together since our 21st birthday! It was nice and Brandon got chew on Uncle Eric's hat.

I've been really struggling to keep up with work and was able to work out a nice solution with my boss. They're looking to cut down the number of hours they have their nanny and we're going to pick up the slack. Best of all worlds for everybody! It's been a real help this week and Brandon's quite the ladies man when we're at Jayme's house! It's not every fella that gets to hang out with 4-5 lovely ladies every day!

Rodney and I are grateful every day that I'm able to work from home and keep Brandon out of day care. It's been a real blessing to have a boss that understands works lines up somewhere after the family stuff is taken care of.

We're hoping to have his first trip to the zoo this weekend with Jen and Leslie (weather permitting).

Brandon had his 6 month check up on the 8th - 28 inches and 15 lbs 15 oz. We went to the Dr. today and he's up to 16 lbs 7 oz - growing boy! Other than that not much to update you on but this picture is too cute not to share!

Great Grandmas Birthday

Last week Brandon started getting the hang of sitting up on his own and it's now one of his favorite things. (with a little help from pillows for the time being ;-)) He's also discovered he can 'pet' the kitty - which really just means grabbing clumps of hair. But she seems to be tolerating it pretty well.

He's also getting the hang of eating from a spoon so we've starting introducing real food. So far he like sweet potatoes, rice and oatmeal. He does not like peas. By the end of the month he should have quite a little menu of stuff to eat!

On Sunday we went to Brownsville for Great Grandma's 98th birthday party. It was great! Bill, Karen and Ricky came down to visit and we all went to The Bramble's in Brownsville. (I think only Mom and Marliss knew it was there - Eric and Jen were just as surprised it was there as I was!) I'm pretty sure we overwhelmed the staff. Seriously - how often do they get a party of 20+? All in all it went very well and the food was fantastic. If you need a night away from the kiddos I would totally recommend it.

Tuesday Brandon and I drove up to Canby to spend the afternoon with Jen and the Kids. Unfortunately we got a bit of a late start so Brooklyn was asleep most of the time. (Swear Brandon has a reflex that makes him poop 20 minutes after we get in the car!) We had fun visting with Jen and playing with Jason. I got out of there just as he was winding down for his afternoon nap so it was a nice quiet drive home. Jen and I are planning to get the kids together more often since my schedule with work is so flexible right now.

Mom is coming in on Friday to hang out for a bit and go with us to meet Rodney for lunch.

I'm hoping to get out and about more now that spring is on the way. Now, who wants to bet I forget the camera?

We've been attacked!

Well last week and this week have been spend battling virus's around the Thomas household. Rodney was home sick 3 days last week and 1 day the week before that because we thought I had pink eye. This weekend his virus attacked me and I spent Sunday living on the couch. Sunday also started with Brandon battling a virus of his own. He went to the Dr. this morning and has a low grade fever and diarrhea. Good times to be had for all eh?!?!?!?

Other than that things have been pretty mild around here. Eric's dogs have been enjoying time in the backyard with Tasha and she's loving time with Uncle Eric. Rodney's been able to take Brandon out a few times by himself which he's really enjoyed.

We're both really appreciating the new view on life we have since becoming parents. Everyone says it'll change your life but you never know just how until it happens to you. (I know all of you that got here before us are rolling your eyes right now!) It's cool to see just how much of his own personality is starting to come out at just 5 months. He's going to be a ham that's for sure.

Starting off February

We've really been enjoying our time at home the last few weeks so not a whole lot to catch you up on. Eric made an incredible dinner for us on Friday night! We're still eating the dessert he made (little bits every day from the freezer). It's like a peanut buster parfait ice cream cake. So bad for us but SOOOOOOOO GOOD! Saturday night we went with Jayme to the Rotary Fundraiser Crab Feed. It was great to get some adult conversation and hear some good live music. The brewery (Calapooia) has music almost every weekend so I'm sure we'll be back.

Let's see - the weekend before that Rodney and I actually made it out for a date night. Actually we went to dinner and ran errands - but it counts since Mom came in to sit for kiddo.

Last week we hired a babysitter to come over a couple of mornings a weeks so I can get a bit more work done during the day and feel more human in the evenings. She's great and Tasha loves her! Brandon likes her too - but he gets fussy because he's still getting used to other people taking care of him.

He's been a big hit at Jayme and Patricks when we head over for client calls. Their girls Hunter and Hayden are over the moon for him.

We've tried food from a spoon with varying degrees of success. I figure he'll get the hang of it sometime this month. (thanks for the tips Jen!)

New Years....a little late

Sorry it's taken so long to get this one out there - we've been having issues with our computer......

For new years we drove up to Tam and Ev's so we could get in a little Olin time. Before we left we bought a shock collar for Tasha. The nice thing is we don't have to use it much be she remembers her manners. It was so nice just to visit and let the boys have some cousin time.

On the way home we stopped in White Salmon and stayed at the While Salmon Inn bed and breakfast. It was so relaxing we decided to stay an extra day and got to see a little snow. It's a great place! We're glad there are places that will let us bring Tasha so she can have fun with the rest of us. (just don't tell Lilly ;-)While we were there Brandon surprised us with two teeth!

When we got back Rodney had to go back to work - hard after two weeks off - and I got to start working again as well.

Last weekend I was able to get away to the coast with Leslie and Trish. It was a much needed girls night out. We went shopping, donated a few dollars to the casino (although Trish came out a winner!) and got caught up on where we all are in our lives. Thanks for the suggestion Leslie!!!!

Earlier this week Brandon finally figured out how to roll onto his tummy (I think I may have told a few of you ;-) Today he actually figured out how to get back onto his back (although I think that was a fluke). He had his 4 month check up and weighs in at 14.5 lbs and 26 + inches long. It's amazing the new things he's doing every day! He's even starting to pet Tasha when she sniffs his face.

Other than that we haven't had a whole lot going on. Enjoy the pictures. We'll try to get one of the teeth soon, but the little guy's not making it easy!

Our Christmas weekend started on Friday morning with Jen and the kids coming down in the morning. The kids had a lot of fun playing and Jason even got to help me bake cookies to share on Saturday. It was nice to visit and once Tasha got used to the kids being here she was relatively calm. Even calm enough to get a kiss from Jason while she napped on the love seat. Brady came down later in the evening with the trailer so they could 'camp' in our driveway with Uncle Eric.

Saturday we got up and tidied up the house so it would be presentable when everyone arrived in the afternoon. Tami, Evan, Olin, Mom and Dad came down early to visit and do a little decorating. It was nice to get Olin and Brandon together. Olin's quite a heavier than Brandon these days! We got all the Christmas presents under the tree and it was no small feat to convince Jason we had to wait until later to open them. He even got to play drums with Uncle Rodney before we left for lunch since all the babies were awake.

Around 11:00 we all headed out to Corvallis to meet everyone at Evergreen for lunch. We pretty much took over the restaurant because there was just about 20 of us and that's half the seating! Everyone enjoyed the buffet and it was fun to try some new things since most of the group hadn't been there before. Leslie, Aaron and Aiden stopped by for a few on their way to Christmas at the Martinak's. Jason and Aiden got along very well, even if they were a little competative. When lunch was over we all went back to our place for presents, poker and snacks.

The kids got to open all their presents first and then the adults had their gift exchange. Tasha inspected most of the toys that were opened and surprised me by not playing with any of them. Poker started shortly after the gifts were opened and it was a pretty good game with Rodney coming in third, Brady in second and Jen was first. The kids played and napped while the adults played. Some adults even got a nap in! We called it an evening pretty early because Dad had to work early the next morning and the rest of us were going to church. Brandon's gift to mommy was sleeping for 9 hours straight!

Sunday we got up at 6:00 (before Brandon even) and started getting ready for church. Brandon looked very stylish in his reindeer sweater. We left around 8:30 and went to Lebanon to meet Grandma and Sharon for fellowship before the church service started. After church we went to Mary's for the Schroeder side of the family Christmas. The kids got to open their presents and we had a big lunch of turkey and ham with all the fixin's. Jen and Brad had to leave early because Brooklyn was melting down so they missed out on dessert. Olin and Brandon did very well considering how much activity there was. I think this is the first year where we didn't get a chance to play cards!

Monday we took it easy and just hung out at the house. We played with Brandon a lot but other than that had a very lazy day. Around 4:30 we went to dinner and then met Mom at the church around 6:30. Tami and I volunteered to help the chior out and sing for early service. We rehearsed until service started. It was so packed we ended up sitting in the back with Tami and Evan. The kids both did very well during service. Brandon had a meltdown the whole drive home, but it kind of worked out because he slept for almost 8 hours.

Christmas morning started at 5:30 when Brandon woke up and didn't want to go back to sleep after he finished nursing. So I stayed up with him and watched 'A Christmas Story'. Around 8 we got Rodney up so I could make biscuits and gravy. Eric came in around 9 and we opened the stocking stuffers. Then we called Mom and Dad to see if they wanted to stay for dinner since they were planning to come in and visit anyhow. Tami and Evan came around 10:00 with Mom and Dad arriving shortly afterward. We played a new game, 'Settler' and the kids had a good nap.

Friday Mom and I went to lunch and did a little xmas shopping. It was nice to get out of the house and Brandon did very well while we were out and about. Mom actually figured out that his back is ticklish.

This weekend was the annual christmas party at the Richards'. We had so much fun catching up with everyone that we almost forgot about taking pictures! Rodney and I went up a few hours before party time so that Brandon could get some one on one time with Bill and Shawnna before everyone arrived. It was a small but very fun group this year. Brandon had a few meltdowns but we're pretty sure it was just because he was out of his normal sleeping schedule. In between meltdowns he had a good time though.

Friday and Saturday night he slept for 8 hours or more. I doubt he'll do it again this evening but the last two nights were heavenly.

Today we cleaned the house a bit and decorated the Christmas tree. Brandon's ornament went on first at the very top of the tree. He likes to sit and stare at the lights more than anything. So far Tasha and Lilly aren't too interested in the tree or ornaments. We'll keep you posted on how that goes ;-)

Brooklyn's Birthday Weekend

This weekend we went up to Jen and Brad's for Brooklyn's first birthday party. We went up on Saturday morning because Rodney had to work at a Credit Union off I 205. Brandon and I spent the day playing with Jason and helping Jen out where we could. Rodney got out of work a little earlier than we expected and we decided to order dinner from Claim Jumper since we couldn't get a reservation. Then our friends Jeannie and Shane met us at the house for dinner. It was the first time they got to meet Brandon so it was really nice to catch up with them.

Sunday Rodney and I were up early - actually we'd been up most of the night since Brandon was having a weird sleeping schedule. I helped make breakfast so Jen could hang out with the kids. Then we went out to Target and Costco. We got back a couple of hours before the party and had just enough time to wrap Brooklyn's present before Mom arrived.

The party was great - we got to catch up a bit with the Richards' and it was fun to see Brooklyn try to figure why we were all singing to her while her mom was holding the cake. Then Jason helped her blow out the candle before we all got to dig in. He was a great helper with opening presents too.

We were the last to leave because we were trying to get little man to eat before we left. He still managed a pretty good meltdown on the way home but that was pretty much just because he was tired after being awake all day. Sunday night we were treated to a full night of sleep - he went 9 hours without waking up.

Monday night we weren't so lucky - he didn't go to bed until almost midnight! But he and Rodney got some good guy time in while they ran errands so I could clean. Eric wasn't feeling well so he stayed home and slept all day while I worked and Brandon slept and played. His fever finally broke midday and he was feeling almost human by the time we all went to bed.

We're getting ready for some more plans this weekend so look forward to more pictures early next week.

Civil War Weekend - GO BEAVS

Friday night we hung out with Eric and chilled at home. Tasha sure likes the empty beer bottles.

Saturday we drove up to Canby and watched the Civil War game with family. You'd think Uncle Eric talked to Brandon before the game because he got poo all over his civial war gear right before we left the house. We had just enough time to wash it before we left the house and dried it at Jen and Brads so he could wear it for the second half of the game. Brady was kind enough to text Eric each time somebody scored so he wouldn't be so bored at the gun show.

Then Rodney and I took little man shopping because his gigantor noggin has outgrown most of his hats. The drive home was pretty uneventful except for the little guys meltdown around Keizer. Some day he'll get the hang of being sleepy and not get so ticked off by it.

Didn't do much today except clean the house (thank you Rodney) and hang out with little man. Rodney was a great guy and let me take a break from mommyhood and relax for a while. What a guy!!!!! Wrapped up the day with Tasha begging for beer and trying to wrestle with Uncle Eric.

Thanksgiving weekend

Our Thanksgiving started out with a dog that was feeling a bit under the weather. Our vet was open so Rodney took her in to get checked out. They didn't see anything to be overly concerned about so the vet said to keep a close eye on her and bring her in if anything got worse. So we packed up the pies, kid and dog and drove into Brownsville for Thanksgiving and Grandma's. It was supposed to be at Mom and Dad's but their stove and TV are on the fritz. And Rodney can't miss Thanksgiving football!!!!! ;-) The meal was great and when we get the pics moved the computer you'll be able to see the post turkey comas.

Rodney took Friday and Monday off so he was able to help Eric and Mom with some stuff to get his house ready to be sold. I got to spend the day with Brandon until everyone came over with Portabello burgers from Carls Junior - messy but YUMMMMM.

Saturday we braved the stores in Eugene because the little guy is outgrowing all his clothes and needed some more. Plus he needed some new duds for the holiday pictures. We got into town early enough that the crowds weren't all that bad. In fact we were leaving just as the mall started getting crazy. We've also learned the valuable lesson of knowing how much of each thing we need so we don't go crazy and buy too much stuff - which we did. Live and learn right?

Sunday we decided to head over to the coast since the weather was nice. We started later than we wanted because there was black ice on the roads and we didn't want to chance it. Our arrival at Beverly Beach couldn't have been better because Jen, Brad, Bill and Shawnna were just finishing up dumping before heading home. It was nice to visit for a few minutes. At the last minute we decided to stay overnight in Yachats because we didn't want to chance black ice on the way home. We stayed at the Shamrock lodgettes because they allow pets. Good news for Tasha! Rodney went into town and picked up dinner because little man was pretty crabby. He slept in one room with the dog and I slept in the other with Brandon because we didn't want Tasha jumping on the bed in the middle of the night and stepping on him.

At breakfast this morning we met a really nice couple from Albany. They even offered to walk Brandon around so we could both eat. He was being pretty fussy because lately he's forgotten how to burp and doesn't like being sleepy. We got home a couple of hours before we needed to get to Sears for pictures. We ate a little lunch and then headed in to get our first official family portrait. Then we went out to dinner to celebrate Rodney's last day off before heading back to the office tomorrow. A very low key but fun and relaxing Thanksgiving!

Promise to add pics as soon as Jen can walk me through getting the slideshow thing working!!!

Jared arrived Monday evening just in time for cheesecake and little man's bath. It was nice to catch up with him before his road trip to Jackson, MT. He got a chance to sleep in on Tuesday and hang out with Rodney most of the afternoon. They found the fly fishing shop in Albany, got tires for the car and then headed over to the OSU Book Store to get Brandon some more Beaver Gear. Then we met Eric at Novaks for dinner. I managed to make a couple of peach pies on Monday. One for Thanksgiving and the other for Rodney's potluck at work. Next I'm tackling pumpkin cheesecake. Tomorrow we're heading out to Mom and Dad's for Thanksgiving with the family. I can't wait for great grandma to see how much he's grown.

Gotta run - getting the cheesecake out of the oven - enjoy the pictures from this week!

Sunday morning

Last night was a lot of fun - we went to Sweet Home for a joint birthday party for Ryan and Kristin. I don't think I've ever been around that many kids!!!!! Brandon got to meet Bill for the first time and did pretty well considering how much there was going on. We tried to listen to the Oregon State game on the way up but lost it just outside of Lebanon.

We managed to sleep in this morning - which is great because little man is usually up around 6:30. Brandon managed almost 7 hours straight!!!! (Pretty sure we won't see that again for a while.) We spent the morning getting ready for Jared's visit tomorrow. The house hasn't looked this good in a while!

Yesterday made 9 weeks since he was born. It's hard to believe it's been that long already! He discovered his feet a couple days ago and his right hand this morning.

Attached is a video of him 'talking' from a few days ago (saying hi to grandma and grandpa in TN). He tells such stories first thing in the morning. But it's nice he can 'talk' with Rodney before he heads out to work.

Hey all - we finally got around to setting up a blog so we can share pictures of our little guy. Don't have much time to devote to loading pictures right now but will be setting up some shortly. We're headed up to the Richards' for B-day parties this evening.

Today was spent at home watching the Ohio State - Michigan game and getting caught up on chores. The lack of swearing from the living room leads me to believe that Ohio State won.

Our friend Jared will be arriving late tomorrow so he can visit for a few days. He gets to meet Brandon for the first time!!
